Welcome to Stack Stories Online – summer 2017

Welcome to Stack Stories Online, updated with new material for summer 2017. This is a place for sharing history, research, genealogy and, above all, stories of the Stack family.

See the main menu to choose from presentations or see the  list of presentations

The stories presented here are kindly shared by people around the world who have Stack ancestry or connections. Their stories may be the outcome of years of research or may have been handed down from generation to generation over hundreds of years, along with photos, documents or poems.

I think our ancestors would be pleased that we have kept their stories alive and made sure that they will be available for all who are interested, for years to come. In understanding their stories we better understand our own.

To all those who have contributed, and to all those who  have, over the last few years,  shared stories in the facebook group from which this website emerges – go raibh míle maith agat.

  1. My great grandmother is Mary Stack, born about 1832 in Kerry. I do think that she was born in Tarbert, her mother is Ellen Shanahan and her father is James Stacki, she came to the usa on feb 27 1852. I love reading all of these articles.
    Thanks, Robert Patrick Walsh Fister

  2. Hello Stacks! My name is Laurel and I live in Staten Island, NY and I am looking for my late father ‘s birth family. I have certain statistics that seem to match Loretta Stack (Born 1925 with details as seen in the 1940 census). That said the Stack name could have come from my burth Grandfather which would be much harder ro track. The statistics were from a letter my father requested and received from NY Foundling (the adoption agency) in 1980. The letter was found after his death and the subsequent death of his 2nd wife, when my step-siblings were packing up her things. My Father’s birth name was James Andrew Stack. He was born in Misericordia hospital in NYC on July 28, 1947. His birth mother’s name was not given but the letter told us that she was in her early 20’s in 1947 . Her parents were aware of the pregnancy and supportive. She had 3 older brothers and 1 younger sister. She was “1st generation Irish”. She had light brown hair and blue eyes. she was tall with a heavy build and a quiet pleasant manner. She had a high school diploma and did office work. The baby was put in foster care after NY Foundling. She signed him over 364 days after his birth. She asked about him often while he was in Foster Care. He was adopted by the Miller family of Queens and they later moved to Long Island. He was a brilliant man and I loved him very much. I am wondering if you have any information about Loretta or contact with her close family who may be able to help me determine if I am in fact her granddaughter. Loretta seems to have married and taken the name Butler and passed in 1984 but it appears she has children and perhpas neices and nephews. If perchance you are aware of a male Stack in the same locale and age range who you think could help me find our family that would be great too. Thank you.
